When you login to the Motornostix system, the first page you are presented with is Analysis – Alarms. This page shows all the active status alarms in the system at the present time: bringing to your attention those devices that are not within normal operating parameters. This overcomes the need to perform detailed analysis of all the devices being monitored to discover where alarm conditions exist.
Each line on the Analysis | Alarms page has two hyperlinks:
Click the Alarm number (#) to open the Alarm Information dialog. This dialog provides detailed information including:
Time the alarm was raised.
Time the alarm was escalated if at all.
Time the alarm was acknowledged and who acknowledged the alarm.
When the alarm was cleared (if it has been cleared) and who cleared the alarm.
Click the Location to open a Mimic of that device. The Mimic displays the time and measurements that caused the alarm to be raised. A reading in red will indicate the alarm condition. Click here to read more about the Analysis | Mimics page.
For every measurable (channel) on a device, Motornostix stores several predefined values which serve as the Alarm Setpoint for a particular channel on that device. (Please view the Alarm Setpoints topic in the Setup section for details on how to define Alarm Setpoints.)
In their simplest form, a device's setpoints are just predefined threshold values which, if exceeded, will trigger an alarm. For example, the Drive End bearing of a Roller might be known to operate in a temperature range of between 30º and 70º C. In this case a setpoint of 75º C could be set as the upper setpoint value for that measurable. If the temperature exceeds 75º C an alarm will be raised.
When an alarm is raised, e-mail and SMS (Mobile telephone text) messages are sent to the designated Alarm Receivers. If the Alarm Receivers do not react within a predefined Escalation Period, the message is resent to the designated Escalation Recipients. For a detailed explanation of how to setup Alarm Receivers please see the Setup | Alarm Receivers page.
Alarms have a property known as the "state" of the alarm. An alarm's "state" is indicative of what action, if any, has been taken in response to the alarm being raised.
An Alarm condition exists and notification of the alarm condition has been sent to the Alarm Receiver/s. Notification of the Alarm will be sent to the Escalation Recipients unless the alarm is Acknowledged within the defined Escalation Period.
An Alarm Receiver has logged on to the Motornostix system and acknowledged receipt of the alarm by clicking the "Ack" checkbox on the Analysis | Alarms page. The alarm will not be sent to the Escalation Recipients.
An Alarm Receiver has logged on to the Motornostix system and cleared the alarm by selecting the Cleared check box on the Analysis | Alarms page. The alarm will no longer appear on the Analysis | Alarms page as an active status alarm, but will appear in the Alarms report page on the Reports | Alarms page if the parameters for when the alarm was raised are selected.
